Privacy Policy
TeX Editor | Effective Date: March 13, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how TeX Editor ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use the application on your Android device. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.
By using TeX Editor you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
The App does not:
- Require you to create an account or sign in.
- Collect your name, email address, or any other personal details.
- Read, upload, transmit, or store the content of your
.texfiles anywhere other than your own device or the cloud storage provider you choose (e.g. Google Drive). - Track your location.
- Access your contacts, camera, or microphone.
- Use analytics SDKs that profile your behaviour across apps.
3. File Access
TeX Editor uses Android's Storage Access Framework (SAF) to open
and save .tex files. This means:
- You explicitly choose every file or folder the App is allowed to access.
- File contents are processed entirely on-device.
- We never transmit your file content to any server.
Recently opened file paths are stored locally in the App's private SharedPreferences storage and are never shared outside your device.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of TeX Editor displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use data to personalise ads, including:
- Device identifiers (Android Advertising ID)
- IP address (used to infer approximate location)
- App usage signals
AdMob's data collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time in your device settings: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID (Android 12+) or Opt out of Ads Personalisation (Android < 12).
Purchasing the Remove Ads in-app product disables all AdMob ad loading within the App.
5. In-App Purchases (Google Play Billing)
The App offers a one-time "Remove Ads" purchase processed entirely through Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Purchase verification is handled by Google Play. Google's handling of payment information is governed by their Privacy Policy linked above.
The purchase state (ads removed: yes / no) is stored locally on your device in the App's private preferences and is used only to suppress ad loading.
6. Internet Permission
The App requests the INTERNET permission exclusively for:
- Loading advertisements via Google AdMob.
- Verifying in-app purchases via Google Play Billing.
No user-generated content or file data is ever transmitted over the network by the App itself.
7. Children's Privacy
TeX Editor is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us at the address below and we will take prompt steps to delete such information.
8. Data Retention
Because the App does not collect personal data, there is no personal data for us to retain or delete. Local App data (recent file list, preferences) can be cleared at any time via Android Settings → Apps → TeX Editor → Clear Data.
9. Third-Party Links
The App does not contain links to third-party websites. Ads served by AdMob may contain links; we have no control over and assume no responsibility for the privacy practices of advertised destinations.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
