Welcome to Photo Translator: OCR & Text ("the App"), developed and maintained by the App developer ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Android application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Photo Translator is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any account credentials
- Your photos, images, or camera footage
- The text extracted from your images (OCR output)
- Your translation history or phrasebook entries
- Your precise or approximate location
- Your contacts, calendar, or any other personal data
3. How the App Works
On-device processing: Text recognition (OCR) and language detection are performed entirely on your device using Google ML Kit's on-device models. Your images never leave your device for these operations.
Translation: Translated text may be processed using Google ML Kit's on-device translation models (downloaded to your device) or via a secure network request to Google's Translation API. In both cases, only the text to be translated is sent — no identifying information is attached.
Local storage only: Your translation history and phrasebook are stored locally on your device in a private Room database. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the App.
4. Permissions Used
- CAMERA – Used solely to capture photos for text recognition. Images are processed on-device and are never uploaded.
- INTERNET – Used to download ML Kit translation models and to display advertisements served by Google AdMob.
- ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE – Used to detect whether the device is online so the App can display the offline mode indicator.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS – Used to display a persistent shortcut notification for quick access to the App. This can be disabled in system settings at any time.
5. Third-Party Services
Google AdMob
The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Google may collect and use data to show you personalised or contextual ads in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can manage ad personalisation settings through your device's Google account settings or by visiting adssettings.google.com.
Google ML Kit
Photo Translator uses Google ML Kit for OCR, language detection, and translation. On-device APIs process data locally. For details, see ML Kit Terms of Service.
Google Play Services
The App requires Google Play Services for core Android functionality and ad delivery. Google Play Services may collect certain device information as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Children's Privacy
Photo Translator is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
7. Data Security
Because Photo Translator does not collect or transmit your personal data, there is no user data stored on our servers. All locally stored data (history, phrasebook) remains on your device protected by Android's built-in security model.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Your Rights
Since we do not collect personal data, there is typically no data to access, correct, or delete. If you have any concerns about data that may have been collected through third-party services (such as Google AdMob), please refer to those services' respective privacy policies and opt-out mechanisms.
