📋 1. Introduction
Welcome to OCR Scanner ("the App"), developed and maintained by the OCR Scanner team. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Android application.
By downloading or using the App you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not install or use the App.
📦 2. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the App's features.
a) Camera Data
The App requests access to your device camera to perform live OCR scanning. Camera frames are processed locally on your device in real time and are never stored or transmitted.
b) Images from Gallery
When you choose to scan an image from your gallery, the selected image is processed locally using ML Kit and is not uploaded anywhere.
c) Scan History (Local Storage)
Scanned text results are optionally saved to a local on-device Room database (your Scan History). This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it using the Share or Export features.
d) Advertising Data (Google AdMob)
The free version of the App shows advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can remove all ads via the in-app "Remove Ads" purchase.
e) Purchase Information (Google Play Billing)
If you make an in-app purchase to remove ads, the transaction is handled entirely by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details.
🔑 3. App Permissions
- CAMERA — Required for live camera OCR scanning
- READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — Required to load images from your gallery for scanning
- WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 9 and below) — Required to export scanned text as PDF or TXT files
- VIBRATE — Used for optional haptic feedback when text is detected
- INTERNET — Required for loading advertisements (free version only) and on-device translation network checks
No permissions are used for purposes beyond what is stated above. All sensitive permissions are requested at runtime and can be denied without affecting core functionality where applicable.
⚙️ 4. How We Use Information
We use the information collected solely to:
- Provide and improve the OCR scanning features
- Save your scan history locally on your device
- Display relevant advertisements to support free access to the App
- Process and verify in-app purchases through Google Play
- Diagnose crashes and technical issues (via anonymized crash reports)
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
🔗 5. Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following third-party services, each with its own privacy practices:
Google ML Kit (On-Device)
Text recognition runs fully on-device. No image data is sent to Google via ML Kit.
ML Kit Terms
Google AdMob
Serves advertisements in the free version. May collect advertising identifiers and
usage data. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings under
Google → Ads.
AdMob Privacy
Google Play Billing
Handles in-app purchase transactions. Subject to Google Play's terms of service.
Play Terms
ML Kit Translation (On-Device)
The translation feature uses on-device language models. Translation models are
downloaded over the internet but no text content is sent to external servers.
🗓️ 6. Data Retention
Scan history is stored locally on your device for as long as you keep the App installed or until you manually clear it within the App. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
We do not retain copies of your images, extracted text, or personal data on any remote server.
👶 7. Children's Privacy
OCR Scanner is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.
🔒 8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed by the App. Since all OCR processing and history storage occurs entirely on your device, your data is protected by your device's own security mechanisms (screen lock, encryption, etc.).
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong screen lock on your device.

You have the right to:
- Access and review all data stored locally via the Scan History screen
- Delete individual scan records or clear all history within the App
- Opt out of personalized advertising through your device's Google settings
- Revoke camera or storage permissions at any time via device settings
- Request information about any data we may hold by contacting us
📝 10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy whenever you update the App.
Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
