This Privacy Policy describes how GedView ("we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application GedView (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.
1. Information We Collect
GedView is designed with privacy in mind. Here is how we handle your data:
Data You Provide:
- GEDCOM Files: When you open a .ged file, the App reads and parses the file locally on your device. Your genealogy data is never uploaded to our servers or shared with any third party.
- Bookmarks and Notes: Any bookmarks or notes you create are stored locally on your device using SQLite and are never transmitted externally.
- Recent Files: The App stores a list of recently opened files locally on your device for convenience.
Automatically Collected Information:
- Advertising Data: Our App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. Google AdMob may collect certain information automatically, including device identifiers, IP address, and usage data, to serve relevant ads. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for more details on how Google processes this data.
2. How We Use Information
- All genealogy data processing happens locally on your device.
- We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal genealogy data to any server.
- Advertising data is used by Google AdMob to serve ads within the App.
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Google AdMob: Used to display advertisements within the App. AdMob may collect and process data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. This may include device information, ad interaction data, and identifiers for advertising purposes.
4. Data Storage and Security
All user data (GEDCOM files, bookmarks, notes, recent files, and settings) is stored locally on your device. We do not operate any servers that store your personal data. The security of your data depends on the security measures of your device.
5. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
6. Your Choices
- Ad Personalization: You can opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device settings. On Android, go to Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization.
- Data Deletion: You can delete all locally stored data (bookmarks, notes, recent files) through the App's Settings screen. Uninstalling the App will also remove all locally stored data.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
