This Privacy Policy describes how CHM Reader ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
CHM Reader is designed with your privacy in mind. The App does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number)
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or tracking data
- Browsing history outside the App
- Contacts, photos, or other personal files
3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device using Android's SharedPreferences mechanism. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or any third party:
- Reading Progress: The last page you read and your scroll position for each CHM file, so you can resume where you left off.
- Bookmarks: Pages you have bookmarked within CHM files.
- Reading History: A record of pages you have visited within CHM files.
- Favorites: CHM files you have marked as favorites.
- Font Settings: Your preferred font size, font family, and line spacing.
- Search History: Your recent search queries within the App.
You can clear this data at any time by clearing the App's data through your device's Settings, or by uninstalling the App.
4. File Access
The App requests permission to access your device's storage solely to scan for and open CHM files. The App:
- Only reads .chm files that you choose to open
- Does not modify, delete, or copy your files to any external location
- Does not access any files other than .chm files and the App's own local data
5. Internet Access
The App requires the INTERNET permission solely for the optional "Import from URL" feature, which allows you to download CHM files from a web address you provide. This feature:
- Only connects to URLs you explicitly enter
- Does not send any data from your device to any server
- Does not connect to any server automatically or in the background
- Does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services
6. Third-Party Services
CHM Reader does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or social media SDKs. The App contains no ads and no tracking.
7. Children's Privacy
The App does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The App is a file viewer tool and does not contain any user-generated content, social features, or in-app purchases.
8. Data Security
Since the App does not collect or transmit any personal data, there is no risk of data breach from our side. All locally stored preferences (bookmarks, reading progress, etc.) are stored in Android's standard SharedPreferences, which are sandboxed to the App and not accessible by other applications.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
10. Your Rights
Since we do not collect any personal data, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete on our servers. All data created by the App is stored locally on your device and is fully under your control. You may delete all App data at any time through your device's application settings.
