1. Introduction
Cast for Android TV and Box (“the App”) is designed to let you browse and cast your local media files to Cast-enabled devices on your network. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains our data practices.
2. Information We Collect
No Personal Data Collection: The App does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data, user information, or media file content on external servers.
Local Network Operation: All functionality, including media browsing and streaming, occurs entirely on your device and your local WiFi network. Your files are never uploaded to the internet.
3. Permissions Used
The following permissions are used solely for core app functionality:
- INTERNET & NETWORK STATE PERMISSIONS – Required to discover Cast devices on your network and to stream media via the local HTTP server.
- ACCESS_WIFI_STATE & CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE – Used to detect WiFi connectivity and facilitate device discovery.
- STORAGE & MEDIA PERMISSIONS (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_MEDIA_*) – Used exclusively to read your device's media files (videos, images, audio) so you can browse and select them for casting. The app only accesses files you explicitly choose to view or cast.
- FOREGROUND SERVICE PERMISSIONS – Required to maintain a stable media playback session and control playback in the background while casting.
4. Third-Party Services
The app integrates the Google Cast SDK to enable casting functionality. Communication with your Cast device is governed by Google's own privacy policies and occurs directly between your devices on your local network. We do not intercept or log this communication.
5. Data Security
Your media remains private. The built-in HTTP server runs locally and is only accessible to devices on your same WiFi network. No data is stored by the app beyond temporary caches for performance, which are cleared automatically.
